Another Piece of Junk

Dear System76 / Pop_OS developers,

It’s really great that you want to do some really cool stuff with the desktop and make it even more POP-like. In fact I really like your base configuration… I believe strongly in the out-of-the-box experience because more often than not when I start trying to fix a deep problem or move some edge of the envelop something really bad happens.

In previous posts I have tried to solve what looks like a RAM allocation problem, turned into a GPU problem, and now appears to be a compatibility issue between amdgpu and the 6.0.12 kernel.

Adding insult to my injury I moved my development to my HP DevOne and started configuring my physical world with a second display. I have 4 or 5 to choose from. The ones that do no work are USB-C only. The one that “worked” for a minute was a micro-HDMI with USB power. It did not work because I could not get enough power to the USB and PD from the laptop was not sufficient either.

I decided to try the USB-only again and monitor the logs. VOILA! amdgpu driver struck again. I’m just not going to explain this anymore… Someone who is interested will see that the displayport support on the HP DevOne does not work and that should be enough for now.

Sincerely,

“need screens”.
