Bitcoin Aint All That

Posted at — Dec 26, 2021

I’m not saying that I’m smarter than the next guy although I’ve read enough technical specs over the years to know when words are added for effect. In the last 24hours I decided that I would try to audit a small chain of transactions by downloading the ledger and seeing what I can see.

So the first problem is that the answer to the question “how do I download the bitcoin ledger” seems to be filled with [1] advertising [2] answers that all start with “download this app onto your ledger machine”. (1) is not very interesting except that some obviously believe there is some money to be made in that space. Maybe I do too. (2) suggests, contrary to popular belief, that there actually is a central authority and they want to know who you are.

so much for transparency and anonymity

I thought I would follow some of the other breadcrumbs.

I’m done with this for now. Just the act of looking at the data is not private.
