ChromeOS Flex

Posted at — Jan 2, 2023

ChromeOS Flex is a great idea that needs more support and effort. It’s clear that Google wants to make money one way or the other from the Chrome browser and secure ChromeOS branded devices… but there is some serious value you repurposing or reusing older legacy systems.

My late father had a few EOL Windows laptops like an HP Envy and a Microsoft Surface Pro 4. I have no idea what the passwords are and even if the systems are safe from viruses and so on. Updating to the latest version of Windows is a good thing but no guarantee that it’s safe.

I had previously downloaded ChromeOS Flex and used it on another laptop and it seemed to work ok. Linux for all it’s size does support a very wide variety of computers. And while these two machines are not on the list of supported devices… it did install Flex and then upgrade to the latest version.

I call this a success.
