The hpdevone is a pop_os installed laptop from Hewlett Packard. There really isn’t anything special about the laptop that makes it a standout other than the price, performance and Linux from the factory.
After a recent problem with my desktop pop_os installation I was forced to fallback deep into my disaster plan for hardware. Linux is an OK fallback even though I have higher expectations… but when I tried to connect my external USB-C monitors I was getting these crazy error messages. (sorry not included but read like “amdgpu read cap” suggesting that there was either a hardware or driver problem. Since I was having driver issues on the desktop … I just signed and moved on.
I’m not sure what happened last night but I stumbled into an article that suggested that not all USB-C cables are the same…. so I bought myself a pair of stupid expensive USB-C cables ($30 for 1.6ft) and this morning I’m looking at a nice external display.
not all USB-C cables are the same
NOTE: I tried the latest Apple USB-C cable that I have with a recent purchase that did not work… Maybe an Apple Lightening cable will work.
