I recently tried the Insta360 in order to video my kids’ soccer and dance performances. In the end I had to return the camera. Here’s why:

I like the feel and the formfactor and even the stabalization. But in the end it’s a terrible choice.

• the display is very small and sensitive making playback and navigation difficult but it is better than nothing.
• the in-camera software is snappy but it did hang once or twice
• one-time I could not get the camera to remain on and there is no reset… turns out the battery was nearly dead.
• the remote is functional but is missing many features like real feedback on the status of the camera
• The worst offenders are the android phone app and the desktop app. Exporting takes hours.

In the end… use a digital camcorder and some basic movie editing software like iMovie.
