Brown out in the lab caused chaos. More important than the dial tone is reliable power. Our systems are not resiliant enough to reliably restart after drops in power. And many power systems have similar problems. Last night I had a brown out in the lab and only 1 of my 8 UPS’ failed to recover and it was the one with the backup NAS and production web server. Looking around this morning at the bones the router/gateway was on a different UPS and it survived.
it’s all chickens and cows again
I have 3 monster CPUs and one NAS connected to a 900W UPS. It failed to detect the restore cycle of the brown out and started beeping until the battery died. Considering the amount of work being performed the systems are over powered. A simple Intel N5150 would have been good enough and would have lasted hours.
