July 20 I placed an order on Amazon for anew Amazon Fire 7 tablet.

July 21, before it shipped, I received a Google Authenticator message that amazon wanted to register access to my email account.

I started to think about the order of operations for about a day and started to get nervous. I asked the following questions:

• Amazon knows my email address and will auto register… but do they have my password too?
• The password is required in order to get to that part in the google auth right?
• The Amazon table it not actually activated when it arrives… there’s a bootstrap process…
• how does the bootstrap process know my wifi password?
• when the bootup completes why is the email account not configured?

I called Amazon customer support. The person offered to help but was useless. He gave me an email address in order to communicate with him… it became a dead letter.

I called a second number after a lengthy search for Amazon Corp. Security. I ended up talking to someone who put me on hold for nearly 20 minutes before the line went dead.

“The Amazon Fire 7 was a money grab. It’s slow when I was expecting it to be faster. It’s still not Android. And worse yet is the overall security flaws.” (my review)

I have nearly 20 different devices and every single one has a google password. Now every device needs to be updated or at least I have to wait until I need it next. And then there are the ChromeOS devices…

grrr not a happy day for Amazon or me.
