It has been many years since I had to back up and restore an Apple, iPhone or iPad. In fact, I always like a fresh install or beginning from scratch. Same thing with my desktops regardless of the operating system.

My decision to use Android instead of Apple is strictly based on diversity of ecosystems in my household and my desire not to be the homesteads it support which is still easier said than done.

One feature that I really like about my Google pixel 8 is the camera. I take a considerable amount of video of my daughter s in their activities whether it’s competitive hip hop or competitive soccer. From time to time I take family pictures in less than ideal conditions where the pixel excels.

Deciding to upgrade to the pixel 9 was an easy decision because the camera feature seemed to be compelling. I have absolutely no interest in any artificial intelligence features even though during the install I allowed it to be activated. Furthermore, I enabled the face face authentication. In addition to fingerprints and patterns, it seems quite creepy and I will likely disable it.

I have some complaints about the quality of the software however, that has nothing to do with the quality of the hardware or its features.

The two problems that remain are that migration from a previous phone to the current phone is simply not completely flawless or hands off. So many apps require authentication and verification. This is particularly troublesome in the one-time password tool set.

Passwords are the second biggest problem. Even though most or all apps will let you store their credentials it really depends on which Google account is wrapping that app. And there is a consistency issue with the desktop chrome.

Side note Google custom domains were also a problemy

Let’s face it. Some of these complaints are unreasonable. They’re never going to improve as there is competition between privacy and features.

Update… The phone had nearly 100% battery charge before the migration and 42% remaining when it was finished.

Live translate seems to interfere with voice to text.

Is it better to have a list of things to install/migrate or is it better to have a list of things not to migrate.

The pixel 8 pro is the same size as the pixel 9 pro XL… What happened to the pixel 9 pro? It shrank.
