This is a quick review of proxmox.
Comming from and rejecting the Broadcom acquisition of VMware… I had very high hopes for Proxmox. In the end it was a serious disappointment and I requested a refund. Here is a list of my complaints:
/proc/version inside a CT(container) they were all the same regardless of the OS.PS looks like Ubuntu has contracted LXC/LXD as of 5/1/2024. Unfortunately the docs are old and microcloud is buggy.
REF:
docker, podman, rkt, runc, others - are best suited for micro services even though that can deploy OS containers but then you have hidden costs
k0s, k3s, k8s, rancher, others…
LXC/LXD - are best suited for OS as nested layers or qemu.
UPDATE
I requested and received a refund for my 3 proxmox licenses. So I started installing ubuntu 24.04 onto those machines only the installer kept crashing. I do not know for certain, however, everything including my intuition tells me that there is a problem induced but the proxmox partition. Which seems strange because it’s Debian. Oh well.
