Text Editors

I’m not sure what to say about text editors these days. I happen to be looking at the JOE editor only to see the variants for emacs, wordstar and a few others. Wikipedia has a huge list of editors and I’ve used or know about most of them… but then I’ve been a professional programmer for almost 40 years.

Sure it’s time for some compressions… some day vi and even emacs are going to be put to rest. I can appreciate that joe is capable of so many different keyboard bindings but really at the end of the day it’s about writing code.

Look at the browser. The browser was supposed to become the portal where 100% of the work is performed. In the end the terminal window still lives.

I’m not sure where it’s all going but I know all I need is a terminal window and edlin and I can get work done.
