This is my opinion after 35 years as an applications and systems programmer.

The GNU team continues to complain that most linux systems are not linux but GNU-Linux and the history bares them out. “Linux” actually refers to the kernel and not the collection of things that let you get work done. The “GNU” tools included things like ls, mv, cp, and sed, awk, grep… and so on. And over time these tools would be coded in perl, or C. Later on there was a swing to python and back. The idea was that “we/they” wanted a system that was not encumbered by the GPL, not write-only as is common in perl, not personal choice like spaces vs tabs … and could get the job done.

golang was the perfect solution for a systems language and that was it’s original mission

The thing about the original go was several fold. First and foremost it was designed by language experts. These people were the rockstars of the programming language world. They attacked all the problems of C and developed a productive environment. (then all the cool java kids found it and took over) And now golang looks like java.

For the timebeing golang is still my first choice and I’m looking for the close 2nd.
