Why I Hate MOST Linux Distros

Posted at — Oct 31, 2022

Waking up at 4am for the 3rd night in a row I was created with the youtube video with the same title. Unfortunately I could not make it past 1:42 before giving up. The presenter was making the judgement (and I paraphrase) that because most distros are plane looking and not uber punked out like his that he hated them.

missed the point

I think he missed the point. Most if not all *nix GUIs are based on X-Windows or a later variant and they are somewhat limited by functionality or hardware demands. Furthermore most take their starting point from Windows or noew OSX. Both are pretty plain. But the point is BASIC users and noobs can move between systems with little or no additoinal training.

not specifically a Linux problem

I was hoping that he was going to complain about Linux specifically. Like the size of the codebase or the number of CVEs or that free still has a price to pay or that putting rust in the kernel (a) lowers the professional age of kernel contributors (b) invites more cruft rather than consolidation.

the mitake was made

I hold the opinion, even stronger than before, that the business intelligence should be written in a language that can be transcoded into another programming language or executed by an interpreter. It opens the number of opportunities.
