I have been a longtime BSD admin. I got my start a long time ago when working on commercial firewalls. It’s easy to get wrapped up in all the Linux foo but…

LOC is not the end-all-be-all of metrics as it’s more complicated than that… there has to be something about correctness, quality of code, and responsiveness. I’m not sure why businesses take the linux first approach and it cannot all be about licensing. FreeBSD and OpenBSD are very strong in the firewall and NAS world.

One can argue for FreeBSD in the NAS world because of ZFS which OpenBSD does not support. Of course there is the question as to whether it’s required but that’s another topic.

If it were my choice then BSD would be my way to go just because…
