YACC & Lex

Posted at — Jul 20, 2020

Back in the day I used yacc and lex quite a bit. The benefit, even for config files, was that we could be assured that there was correctness when parsing the files. There was even time when config files were obfuscated from the user… Since then “we” started using JSON and XML/XSL…

And so the question is … is there still room for YACC and lex? do we need them anymore? and is it time for YACC and Lex to produce systems in arbitrary languages… consider that many languages eventually want to product an executable from the source language.
